Description:

We invite applications for a full-time, permanent position as Associate
Professor in English sociolinguistics at the Department of Language and
Literature, NTNU. Preference will be given to candidates who can also show
experience in research/teaching in translation studies or English in
multilingual contexts.

The English section of the Department currently has 19 permanent employees
within three broad areas of specialization—linguistics, literature, and
cultural studies. The language/linguistics group is actively engaged in
research projects within theoretical linguistics, psycho- and
neurolinguistics, first and second language acquisition, and translation
studies. The section offers bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD education within a
broad spectrum of campus-based and distance courses.

The employee will be expected to:
- Pursue research within their field of specialization and publish regularly
in respected international outlets.
- Teach and supervise in courses relevant to their specialism at all levels,
both within the regular and teacher training programs and EVU (distance and
continuing education) offering. The employee may also be required to teach
general introductory English linguistics and proficiency.
- Contribute actively to student recruitment and program quality development.
- Actively work to establish externally financed research projects.
- Take on administrative duties and, potentially, leadership roles in the
department.

Required qualifications:
- A Ph.D. within English sociolinguistics.
- A strong track record of research and publication within English
sociolinguistics, as appropriate to the candidate’s career stage.
- A strong track record of high-quality teaching at the university level, as
appropriate to the candidate’s career stage.
- Excellent English abilities (written and spoken).

Desirable qualifications:
- Experience of research/teaching in the area of translation studies or
English in multilingual contexts.
- Experience in successfully applying for and working on externally funded
research projects, and/or well-developed plans to apply for such funding.
- Independent teaching and supervision experience
- Experience of public engagement and outreach. Knowledge of the Norwegian
education system (at all levels), as well as the role of English in Norwegian
education and society.
