Description:

The Institute of Linguistics, department 10 (Modern Languages), at
Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main is looking to appoint a postdoctoral
researcher (E13 TV-G-U) as part of the DFG funded project ‘A General Theory of
Multivaluation’. The position is for 16 months beginning January 2020, at the
payscale E13 TV-GU (100%). The salary grade is based on the job
characteristics of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to
Goethe-University.

The successful applicant will be part of the syntax research group at the
Institute of Linguistics. The project ‘A General Theory of Mutlivaluation’ is
an investigation into the agreement possibilities in constructions that
display multivaluation, whereby under agreement a single element receives
multiple values for a particular feature. This can either be multiple
instances of the same value or conflicting values for that feature. The
project investigates how this situation gets resolved by comparing different
constructions and syntactic environments across various languages, with the
aim of developing a unified theory for how this situation gets resolved. In
addition to building a typological picture of the variation within this
domain, we also plan to test certain configurations experimentally to both
strengthen the empirical record, as well as more finely test difficult
judgements. Further information on the project can be found at
http://pwsmith.github.io/multivaluation.

Responsibilities of the position include:
- Research into various constructions in which multi-valuation is observed
- Assisting with the development of, as well as running and evaluating the
experimental research
- Presentation of results at national and international conferences
- Publication of results in internationally renowned journals
- Project administration
- Planning workshops on the theme of the project

The successful candidate should have:
- A completed PhD in the area of theoretical (morpho-)syntax.
- Experience in planning and running experimental linguistic research.
- International visibility of research.

Your application should include the following materials:
- Letter of motivation.
- CV, including list of publications.
- Proof of completion of your PhD.
- Up to three samples of research, either articles or dissertation chapters.
- The contact details of two people who can be contacted for references.
