Date: 13-May-2020 - 13-May-2020
Location: Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Contact Person: George Walkden

Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics; Sociolinguistics; Syntax; Text/Corpus Linguistics

Call Deadline: 22-Nov-2019

Meeting Description:

(Session of Diachronic Generative Syntax 22)

There is a lively tradition of work on syntactic change in sociolinguistics,
and another lively tradition of work on syntactic change in historical corpus
linguistics. At present, however, theorizing in the two traditions has
proceeded in relative isolation. Recent years have also seen a surge in
theoretically-informed work on dialect syntax, adding another dimension to the
picture. This workshop - a one-day event attached to the Diachronic Generative
Syntax conference - aims to stimulate dialogue and explore points of
convergence and divergence between these different approaches. Invited
speakers are Sali Tagliamonte (Toronto) and David Willis (Cambridge).

Call for Papers:

The Workshop on Syntactic Change in Progress is now accepting submissions for
oral and poster presentations! We welcome submissions from anyone working on
syntactic change, regardless of whether they identify as a sociolinguist, a
historical linguist, a corpus linguist, a syntactic theorist, or anything
else. Abstracts should be no longer than two A4 pages (minimum font size:
12pt), including examples and references.

Please submit via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=digs22
and tick the box indicating that your submission is intended for the workshop.
The deadline is 22 November 2019, 23:59 CET.

Note that there will be a number of travel and accommodation bursaries
available to participants who need them.
