Meeting Description:

This will be the eighth meeting of Amazônicas, an international conference
dedicated to research into the native languages of the Amazon Basin. The
conference is held every other year in a South American country. Following the
2016 meeting in Leticia, Colombia / Tabatinga, Brazil and the 2018 meeting in
Baños, Ecuador, the 2020 conference will take place in the city of Goiânia,
capital of the Brazilian state of Goiás.

Amazônicas VIII will include the following symposia: ''Nominal Classification:
grammar, discourse, typology''; ''The interplay between phonology and
morphology''; and ''Verbal art in indigenous languages of Amazonia: tradition
and innovation.'' There will also be a symposium focused specifically on the
Macro-Jê stock and a general session. This is the first time that Amazônicas
will host a general session in addition to the more specific symposia.

2nd Call for Papers:

For all of the symposia (including the Macro-Jê session and the general
session) abstracts are due by October 1, 2019.

Abstracts must be anonymous, submitted as a .doc or .pdf file, and consist,
with examples, of one single-spaced page with one-inch margins and 12pt font.
References may be submitted on a separate page.

Please include in the accompanying email the following information about your
abstract:

(1) Title of the presentation; Name(s) of the author(s) and their respective
affiliation(s)
(2) Language: Portuguese or Spanish or English
(3) Indication if the work is for (a) a 20-minute oral presentation; (b) a
poster presentation; or (c) if the author/s are available for 20-minute oral
presentation or poster presentation, with preference for oral presentation
(4) Indication if the author or co-author is a native speaker of an indigenous
language
