Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Linguistics

We have two available positions at the level of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer:
One Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) and Continuing (i.e. permanent) Position
One Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) and 3 Year Fixed Term Position

We invite applications from candidates who approach the field of Linguistics
from a strong empirical perspective, for example using corpus evidence,
fieldwork, experimental and/or quantitative methodologies. Candidates with
additional teaching/research interests in the official languages of New
Zealand, including te reo Māori or New Zealand Sign Language, or in other
languages of the South Pacific region, are particularly encouraged to apply.

A typical teaching load in the Department of Linguistics is the equivalent of
four courses per year. You will be expected to contribute to some existing
courses, and to teach in at least two of the following areas:
- Forensic linguistics
- World Englishes
- Corpus linguistics
- Computational linguistics
- Sociolinguistics
- Psycholinguistics
- Field methods
- Semantics or Pragmatics
- Language Acquisition

Your research will complement the Department’s present research activities and
you will also be encouraged to develop a strong, externally-funded research
programme. 

Applicants must hold a PhD degree and have a demonstrated record of published
research, commensurate with their experience. The successful candidates will
have a commitment to excellence in teaching, at both the undergraduate and

The Department of Linguistics offers courses in the core areas of linguistics
for the three-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees.
Postgraduate teaching includes courses for the Bachelor of Arts Honours
degree, the Master of Linguistics, the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy

The Department of Linguistics is closely affiliated with The New Zealand
Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour (NZILBB). NZILBB researchers come
from a wide range of disciplines, forging connections across linguistics,
speech production and perception, language acquisition, language disorders,
memory, brain imaging, cognitive science, bilingual education, and human
interface technologies.
