Description:

Title: Senior Phonetician

Location: New York Metropolitan Area | Stamford, CT | Tel Aviv, Israel |

At Voiceitt we build products that allow people with speech disabilities
associated with various backgrounds to communicate using their own voices. By
giving them back their voice, Voiceitt fosters independence, empowerment and
social inclusion among individuals who currently depend on bulky, slow,
expensive and stigmatizing solutions for this vital basic human need: to
communicate.

Our in-house developed ASR technology uses dysarthric speech data manually
annotated by a team of skilled clinical phonetics specialists. As part of our
efforts to expand our annotation team, we are looking for a phonetics expert
who can share a position of annotation data supervisor and collaborate with
the current team supervisor in various tasks, including:

- Fully mastering and further developing our proprietary annotation
methodology
- Recruiting phonetic annotation specialists and training them to master the
annotation methodology and apply it on novel dysarthric speech data
- Supervising and ensuring quality and timely delivery of the annotated data
for machine learning processes
- Researching the annotated data and formulating regularities of phonetic
distortions caused by dysarthric speech

Required Qualifications:

- PhD degree in linguistics or speech therapy, with dissertation research in
phonetics, preferably from an institution with long tradition of expertise in
linguistic/clinical phonetics. Academic background in both linguistics and
speech therapy is considered a major advantage.
- 3+ years of experience in manual phonetic annotation for speech industry
and/or academic research. Significant experience in detailed annotation of
non-standard pronunciation (e.g. foreign accented speech, disordered speech)
is a plus.
- Mastery of the entire International Phonetic Alphabet (including diacritics)
and strong familiarity with the IPA extensions for disordered speech.
- Passion for hands-on phonetic annotation, and attention to phonetic detail.
- Experience in teaching and training phonetic annotation.
- High skills in phonological rule formulation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Native or native-like proficiency in American English. Native(-like)
proficiency in North American Spanish is a major advantage. Native proficiency
in any other language is a plus.
- Availability for long term commitment.
