Description:

Duolingo is looking for a skilled writer/editor with a background in English
language pedagogy who is a native speaker of American English. This is a
temporary freelance position (no benefits included). All work will be
conducted remotely and hours are flexible.

Responsibilities:

- Write and edit pedagogical content aimed at teaching English
- Review and adapt English content to make it appropriate for different levels
of student proficiency
- Provide feedback to other writers on tailoring content for English learners
- Adopt Duolingo’s voice and tone when writing/editing pedagogical content.

Requirements:

- BA in TESOL, linguistics, English literature, or a related field
- Native proficiency in American English
- Ability to write natural dialogues, simple narratives, and non-academic
explanations in English
- Experience teaching English as a second language and/or creating language
learning material/curricula
- Basic computer skills (Google docs, spreadsheets)
- Ability to work up to 10-15 hours a week
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills

Exceptional candidates will have:

- MA in TESOL, linguistics, English literature, or a related field
- Proficiency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Chinese
- Professional editing and copywriting experience
- Demonstrated creative track record (e.g., creative writing, podcast, YouTube
videos, screenplays, literary translation, etc.)
