THE LINGUISTIC ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (LAN) 32nd CONFERENCE OF THE LINGUISTICS
OF NIGERIA (CLAN)

The National Executive Council of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN)
is pleased to formally inform members of LAN and the general public that the
32nd Conference of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (CLAN) will be held
from 30 November to 4 December, 2020 at the University of Benin, Benin City,
Nigeria. This 32nd Conference will focus on the crucial role of language in
national cohesion and development in Nigeria. The theme of the University of
Benin Conference is: The role of language, literature and culture in the unity
and development of Nigeria.
 

Call for Papers: 

Nigeria as a developing, multilingual nation has been grappling with the
challenges of national cohesion and peace. Various responses to these
challenges have come in the form of socio-economic, religious and political
interventions. Nevertheless,  the foundation of these interventions is the
language problem, which is at the core of every human activity. Therefore, the
theme of CLAN 2020 addresses multiple approaches to the issue of language as a
tool for unity, peace and development.

SUB THEMES: 
 - Language documentation and national development
 - Langauge development and conflict resolution in Nigeria
 - Lexicography and national development
 - Language, Social Media and the post-COVID19 culture
 - Multilingualism and peaceful co-existence in Nigeria
 - Nigerian Pidgin and National Unity
 - Literature and cultural development for national unity
 - Human rights and democracy through language develoment

Contributions from the areas of formal linguistics are welcome. These include
but not limited to the areas of:
 - Phonetics 
 - Phonology
 - Morphology
 - Syntax
 - Semantics
 - Pragmatics
 - Discourse Analysis
 - Sociolinguistics 
 - Nigerian Language Studies
 - Etc

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP:
There will be a Pre-Conference Workshop on Edo Language. Intending
participants should send an abstract of 250 words written in English to:
