Description:

We are looking for a world-class expert in teaching English as a second
language who has a background in Hindi and/or knowledge of India and the
Indian language learning market. Our ideal candidate has strong organizational
skills, can build effective and engaging course content, and understands the
unique challenges of digital education. You will join our team of course
designers and help support our efforts to deliver the best language education
in the world through evidence-based practices. Join Duolingo to feel empowered
as an educator, affecting how millions of people learn! This role is based in
Pittsburgh, PA. 

You will:
- Design the curriculum and oversee content creation for the Duolingo English
course for speakers of Hindi, as well as other English courses intended for
Asian markets
- Help design pedagogical resources for courses teaching English
- Guide the creation of assessments of learners’ language knowledge
- Recruit, train, and supervise other language experts 
- Help communicate the science behind Duolingo’s teaching methodology to a
wider audience

You have:
- M.A. (or equivalent experience) in TESOL, linguistics, applied linguistics,
or a related field
- Experience teaching English and/or developing English language curricula
- Native or near-native proficiency in English
- At least basic proficiency in Hindi and/or familiarity with language
learning market and learners’ needs in India 
- Familiarity with evidence-based principles of language learning and/or
teaching
- Ability to build language curricula that effectively scaffold the learning
experience
- Ability to think about language analytically (e.g., breaking down
grammatical concepts into smaller parts for the purposes of teaching and
assessment)
- Outstanding interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- A desire to make the world a better place through technology

Exceptional candidates will have:
- Full professional proficiency in Hindi
- Experience teaching English to speakers of Hindi
- Project management experience
- Experience supervising others, especially remotely
- At least basic proficiency in other languages (e.g., Chinese, Japanese,
French, Spanish, or other major Indian languages)
