Job Posting Details:

The Division of Humanities of the Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology (HKUST) is searching for suitable candidates to fill
tenure-track/tenured faculty positions in Applied Linguistics or Linguistics
with an orientation relevant to Language Education.  Applications at all ranks
will be considered.  The positions are to be filled beginning in Fall 2020.
 
The successful candidates will take a leading role in our taught Master in
International Language Education program.  While experience in language
teaching is preferred, a strong research profile in any relevant area of
Applied Linguistics or Linguistics will be considered. 
 
Applicants should have a PhD degree from a reputable university with a
publication record of international impact, a strong record of grant
application, proven teaching commitment and performance, experience and
readiness in administrative matters, and demonstrated service to the academic
community and/or the public.  Leadership qualities in research, teaching
and/or service are expected. English is the medium of instruction and
administration at HKUST but proficiency in Chinese will be an advantage.

The Division of Humanities works closely with the Center for Language
Education to deliver the master’s degree program in International Language
Education.  It also has research postgraduate programs at both master’s and
doctoral level under the broad arena of Humanities, offers general education
courses for all undergraduates at HKUST, and contributes to a
multidisciplinary undergraduate major program of BSc in Global China Studies
with the Division of Social Science. 
 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 
Fringe benefits including annual leave and medical/dental benefits will be
provided.  Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable.  For
appointment at Assistant Professor level, initial appointment will normally be
on a three-year contract.  A gratuity will be payable upon completion of
contract.

performance.  Applicants for Assistant Professor positions must submit three
letters of recommendation at the time of application.  The Search and

commencing 31 March 2020.  The review process will continue until the
positions are filled.
