Description:

The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University
invites applications for a one year, full-time, Visiting Assistant or
Associate Professor of Sociolinguistics (bilingualism/multilingualism and
language maintenance) with a regional focus on India and Indian American
speech communities. This position will begin in Fall 2020. Responsibilities
include teaching two undergraduate and/or graduate courses per semester,
active participation in the initiatives of the Mattoo Center for India
Studies, advising students minoring in South Asian Studies. Candidate should
have PhD in hand by the beginning of the appointment. Competence in at least
one Indian language is required, prior college teaching experience preferred.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Linguistics or Asian Studies, with specialization in Sociolinguistics
(bilingualism/multilingualism and language maintenance) with a regional focus
on India and Indian American speech communities. Must have Ph.D. in hand by
the time of appointment. Competence in at least one Indian language is
required.

Preferred:
Prior college teaching experience preferred.
