The Linguistics discipline in the School of Arts at the University of

Southern African Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Society (SALALS) and the
South African Association for Language Teaching (SAALT). The conference will
be held in Durban – a wonderful and warm place to be in the South African
winter, where many different cultures, religions and languages meet, with the
Indian Ocean at our doorstep. Come and join us for three days of stimulating
debate and discussion – abstracts are invited for papers in all areas of
general linguistics, applied linguistics and language teaching.

Second Call for Papers:

The deadline for submission of abstracts for posters or talks at the 2020
joint annual conference of the Southern African Linguistics and Applied
Linguistics Society (SALALS) and the South African Association for Language
Teaching (SAALT), to be held in Durban, has been extended to February 28,
2020!

Abstract guidelines SALALS/SAALT 2020:
 - Abstract submission deadline is midnight South African Standard Time on 28
February 2020. Abstracts will not be accepted after this date.
 - Notification of acceptance will commence week beginning 30 March 2020.
 - All abstracts must be submitted online through the conference website.
 - Abstracts are invited for papers in all areas of general linguistics,
applied linguistics and language teaching.
 - The length of the abstract must not exceed 500 words, including examples
and references.
 - Authors who wish to submit more than one abstract should fill out a
separate online submission form for each abstract.
 - All abstracts will be reviewed, and the final selection will be made by the
Scientific Committee.
 - No accepted abstract will be included in the programme unless registration
has been completed and payment has been received. All accepted presenters must
be registered and fully paid by 25 May 2020.
 - Abstracts may be submitted in English and any other official language of
South Africa. Should you wish to submit an abstract in a language other than
English, please accompany your abstract with an English translation. Bear in
mind that while we are currently exploring options for translation services
between isiZulu and English at the conference, we may not be able to cater for
any other languages.
 - It is the author's responsibility to submit a correct abstract. Any errors
in spelling, grammar or scientific fact will be reproduced as submitted by the
