Call Deadline: 31-Mar-2020

Meeting Description:

The Shared LCTL Symposium is an initiative that has grown out of the
partnership of Michigan State University and the University of Chicago’s
respective grant projects, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The
focus is on sharing less commonly taught language instruction across
institutions.

Call for Papers:

(more information found here:
https://sites.google.com/msu.edu/slctls/call-for-proposals)

We want to spark a conversation about possible futures in instruction in less
commonly taught and Indigenous languages. Inspired by the work done to
strengthen less commonly taught language (LCTL) instruction through the Mellon
Collaborative Partners (University of Chicago) and the LCTL and Indigenous
Language Partnership (Michigan State University), and steps taken by the Big
Ten Academic Alliance Libraries, we believe that a prosperous future for LCTLs
is characterized by sustained collaboration, coordination, and interdependence
across universities.

To this end, we invite visionary teams and individuals to submit proposals for
7-minute “lightning talks” describing what this future may look like. The best
proposals will be invited to present at the fifth Shared LCTL Symposium, held
on August 20-21, 2020, in Rosemont, IL.

Some questions that can guide your big ideas are:
• What should collaboration, coordination, and interdependence look like for
LCTL instruction?
• How can a collaborative and interdependent approach be achieved in the
current climate of budgetary cuts and declining enrollments?
• What current exemplary initiatives are optimal models for collaboration,
coordination, and interdependence?
• What are the major roadblocks that you foresee in such a collaborative
initiative?
• What organizational structures need to be put in place for interdependence
to be successful?
• What financial models can best support interdependence?

Proposals should include:
1. A title of no more than 15 words
2. An abstract of no more than 300 words (up to 2000 characters)
3. A shortened abstract of no more than 50 words (up to 300 characters) to be
included in promotional materials

You may have up to two presenters per abstract. Due date March 31, 2020.
