Job Title: 21st Century Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; African American Language

Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University invites applications
for a 21st Century Postdoctoral Fellow. Recognizing the educational benefits
of a diverse academic community, the aim of the fellowship, a new initiative
of Georgetown University, is to encourage the development of a professoriate
with backgrounds, expertise, and experiences that will assist in meeting the
diverse challenges of the current century.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow whose research focuses on any aspect of
African American Language, from any research perspective relevant to
linguistics. Our department has concentrations in theoretical/formal
linguistics, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, and computational
linguistics. We welcome applicants from these and other perspectives (e.g.
linguistic anthropology, educational linguistics, language policy). The
program is particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated interest in
bringing to their academic careers the critical perspective that comes from a
nontraditional educational background and/or understanding of the experiences
of members of groups historically underrepresented in academia.

The fellowship has a two-year term, August 1, 2020 through July 31, 2022. The
primary expectation is that fellows will produce scholarly research and refine
their research agenda, while gaining valuable teaching experience and building
professional networks. The postdoctoral fellow will work with a department
mentor to design and teach one undergraduate course on African American
Language in each year of the fellowship. The fellow will be fully integrated
into the intellectual life of the department, including department colloquia,
research presentations, and professional mentoring. Fellows are expected to
demonstrate a commitment to inclusive scholarship and to promoting cultural
understanding and broader perspectives on the core problems of their
discipline or interdisciplinary field.

Please direct any questions about this position to Dr. Jennifer Nycz at
jennifer.nycz at georgetown.edu.

Applicants must have PhD in hand by the start of the appointment (August 1,
2020)

defined) research community.
Contact information for three recommenders must also be submitted by the
application deadline through Interfolio (recommenders may be contacted for
letters at a later stage in the search process).
