Meeting Description:

The Center for Language Research of the Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences at the University of Rijeka, Croatia, invites you to participate in
the international scientific conference “Language and Culture”.


Call for Papers:

We invite submissions of abstract proposals for individual papers and panels.
We seek quality, unpublished papers that address the empirical, theoretical
and/or methodological aspects of research into the relationship between
language and culture focusing (though not exclusively) on the following
topics:

- The nature and directionality of the relationship between language and
culture,
- The relationship between language, culture and thought,
- The relationship between language, culture and gender,
- The relationship between language, culture and identity,
- The relationship between language, culture and tradition,
- The relationship between language, culture and society,
- The relationship between language, culture and social kinds,
- The relationship between language, culture and social action,
- The relationship between language, culture and artifacts,
- The relationship between language, culture and different biases (e.g.
social, cognitive, implicit),
- Intercultural communication,
- Intercultural competence,
- The development of intercultural competence in children and adults,
- The role of culture (and the environment) in first language acquisition,
- The role of culture (and the environment) in second language acquisition,
- The role of culture in language learning and teaching,
- Teaching culture in foreign language classrooms. 

Abstract submission deadline: January 15, 2020
Notification of acceptance (for all submissions): February 3, 2020
Early registration: March 1 – April 15, 2020
Late registration: April 16 – May 8, 2020
