Description:

Verto Education offers an innovative way for students to have a more
meaningful first year of college. Through Verto, students can spend their
first year of college abroad, get admitted to a better college, and stay on
track to graduate in four years. Students can also apply to 40+ partner
schools through Verto, including William & Mary, Bucknell University, and
University of Oregon, where their credits will transfer seamlessly keeping
them on track to graduate in four years.

Our mission is to empower every student to spend impactful time abroad during
their college career, and graduate with a better understanding of themselves,
and the world around them. Verto Education is accredited through Portland
State University.

Field Instructor, Spanish

As a Verto Field Instructor, you will serve as the lead facilitator of a
freshmen-level course in Spanish 101 or 201. Through a dynamic combination of
classroom instruction- taught in 2.5-4 hour blocks, and experiential
fieldwork, Field Instructors support students by pairing theoretical concepts
with real-world experience.

Course Descriptions:

Spanish I:
This course blends the focus on grammatical rigor and vocabulary acquisition
with real world Spanish immersion. Through fieldwork and homestays, students
will have opportunities to put their Spanish language skills to use. This
course is equivalent to an elementary Spanish language course and includes
vocabulary development, grammar, sentence structure, spoken language
proficiency, and cultural understanding.

This course is offered on the Costa Rica & Dominican Republic Field Semester.
It runs the length of the semester, approximately 12 weeks, approximately 12
weeks.

Spanish II:
This course blends a focus on communication with grammatical rigor and
vocabulary acquisition, in a real-world Spanish immersion context. During
class seminars, students will be exposed to Spanish in different communicative
situations and will engage with the language in different manners, ranging
from simply reacting to input to negotiating their way through a task. Spanish
will be the primary language of instruction and the majority of class time
will be spent on task-based, communicative activities. Students will work
individually and in small groups. In addition, students will have
opportunities to put their Spanish language skills to use through homestays,
and engagement with community members and organizations.

This course is offered on the Costa Rica & Dominican Republic Field Semester.
It runs the length of the semester, approximately 12 weeks.
