From: Schoch [melanie.schoch at uni-kassel.de]
Subject: German; Semantics, Lexicology: Professor, University of Kassel, Germany

University or Organization: University of Kassel
Department: Faculty of Humanities
Job Location: Kassel, Germany
Web Address: https://www.uni-kassel.de/uni/
Job Title: W 2 Professorship (m/f/o) for “Semantics and Lexicology of New High German”
Job Rank: Professor

Specialty Areas: Semantics; Lexicology

Required Language(s): German (deu)

Description:

W 2 Professorship (m/f/o) for “Semantics and Lexicology of New High German”

according to Section 64 (3) of the Higher Education Act of Hes-se with a
development commitment after a probationary period of 6 years to receive a
permanent contract as a W 2 Professor.

The professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German
Federal Government and the Federal States.

The professor is expected to focus on German linguistics with a major emphasis
on research into semantics and lexicology of New High German. As far as
teaching is concerned (initially 4 hours, after the probationary period, 8
hours), the successful candidate will be expected to teach German linguistics
for all the university courses (teaching degrees and BA/MA) across a wide
curriculum.
The professorship is linked to a planned cooperation between the University of
Kassel and the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The holder of the
position should therefore become involved in academic tasks like the
lexicographical research projects operated by the Academy, particularly the
“Digital History of Words” project (ZDL), among other things. Previous
experience in the field of lexicography and/or digital humanities is welcome.

Evidence of further qualifications, among other things, in the research fields
of semantics and lexicology of New High German is therefore the prerequisite
for receiving a W2 professorship after the probationary period. The latter
will be concluded on the basis of an evaluation procedure.

The official tasks not only involve teaching and research, but also promoting
young academics, e.g. as part of the “GeKKo” doctoral research programme,
participation on the university’s committees and the internal administration
of the university.

The candidate must not only have a doctorate degree and experience of
university teaching, but also experience in academic research, particularly
relevant publications in the fields of semantics and lexicology related to New
High German. Experience in attracting outside funding would be an additional
benefit.

The employment and performance requirements apply pursuant to §§ 61, 64 (3) of
the Higher Education Act of Hessen.

Please send your application including CV, certificates, credentials, your,
list of publications, presentation of research strategy, statement of teaching
strategy, doctoral thesis, three additional selected publications, two of
which you have written yourself, list of courses taught and, if applicable,
course evaluations.

For additional information please contact Prof. Dr. O. Gätje (Tel.:
0561/804-3325, E-Mail: gaetje at uni-kassel.de).

The Universität Kassel is highly interested in its employees’ professional
satisfaction. Therefore its Dual Career Service and its Family Welcome Service
aim to promote the balance between partnerships, families and professional
development. Among the strategic goals of the Universität Kassel is to
considerably increase the proportion of women in research and teaching.
Therefore, applications from women are especially desired. Applicants with
disabilities, who are equally qualified and suitable, will receive preference.
Applications can be sent, with reference number, in electronic form to the
President of the Universität Kassel, 34109 Kassel or to
bewerbungen at uni-kassel.de. In the event of any differences between the German
and English versions of this call for application, the German wording is
legally binding.
