Description:

The Psychology of Language Group, Georg-Elias-Müller Institut für Psychologie,
Georg-August University Göttingen invites applications for a doctoral
researcher position (all genders welcome; 65%; Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L) within
the Research Training Group “Understanding Social Relationships” (Speaker:
Prof. Julia Fischer). The position is available for three years. The position
will investigate the extent to which infants selectively attend to different
kinds of language input and how this selective attention impacts successful
language learning using eye-tracking and ERP methodologies. The common aim of
the RTG is to identify core principles explaining the development, maintenance
and function of social relationships.

The position is anchored in the “Psychology of Language” Research Group at
Georg-Elias-Müller Institut für Psychologie (PI: Prof. Nivedita Mani), which
focusses on the mechanisms underlying infants’ language acquisition and
language processing. Researchers working within the group have varied
interests including topics such as curiosity-driven approaches to word
learning, selective attention in early language acquisition, visual and social
cues in language processing.

Candidates should fulfill the following requirements:

- A very good M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Cognitive Science,
Psycholinguistics or similar fields
- Very good English skills (written and spoken)
- Good statistical and analytical skills
- Willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams
- Experience in experimental studies with children, EEG and eye-tracking is
beneficial
- Good German skills are beneficial
