Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantitative Morphology
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Morphology

Required Language(s): French (fra)

Description:

Université de Paris is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in quantitative
morphology for 12 monts full time, to work within the ANR-funded Démonext
project. The intended starting date is between October 1st, 2020 and January
1st, 2021. The postdoc will work at Laboratoire de linguistique formelle.

Work will be conduced within task 4.1 of the project, which deals with
quantitative analysis of data from a morphological database for French. The
ideal candidate combines linguistic expertise in morphology and/or lexical
semantics, advanced skills in statistical modelling and/or machine learning,
and a good knowledge of French. Candidates exhibiting expertise in a subset of
these domains will be considered.

The postdoc will work on rivalry between derivational processes in French
morphology, based on data from the Démonette2 database, which is described in
Namer et al. (2019, actes de TALN). The main goal is to develop and analyze
statistical models of rivalry, building on works such as Lindsay & Aronoff
(2013), in Morphologie in Toulouse, Lincom; Arndt-Lappe (2014), in English
Language and Linguistics 18; Bonami & Thuilier (2019) in Word Structure 12.

No teaching is expected from the postdoc, but it is expected that they
participate in the research unit's research activities (colloquia etc.)

Research environment:
The postdoc will be affiliated with the Laboratoire de Linguistique Formelle
(LLF http://www.llf.cnrs.fr/), located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
The LLF is an interdisciplinary research laboratory linked to the Department
of Linguistics (UFR de Linguistique) at Université de Paris
(https://www.u-paris.fr/), which brings together researchers from
computational, experimental, theoretical, and descriptive linguistics. The lab
has an experimental room with experimental material (eyetracker, SMI glasses,
portable EEG…), and houses a computing infrastructure for machine learning.
Research will benefit from the support of an engineering team with competence
on linguistics resources, experimentation and computing.

The postdoc will collaborate with other members of project Demonext in the
following research groups:
- Analyse et Traitement Informatique de la Langue Française (ATILF
http://www.atilf.fr)
- Cognition, Langues, Langage, Ergonomie (CLLE https://clle.univ-tlse2.fr)
- Savoirs Textes, Langage (STL https://stl.univ-lille.fr)

Starting date and salary:
The intended starting date is between October 1st, 2020 and January 1st, 2021,
to be adjusted depending on the helth situation and the candidate's
constraints. The candidate needs to have been granted a PhD by the starting
date. Net salary is 2200 € per month.

Application details:
Prospecting applicants should send:
- A CV, including a list of publications.
- A cover letter explaining how and why they think they can contribute to the
project.
- A link to a website where publications can be downloaded.
- The name of two professors for reference letters.

For full consideration, please send the application in a single email by June
30, 2020 to both addresses below. Interviews will take place in early July.
