Linguistic Field(s): Text/Corpus Linguistics

Meeting Description:

Corpora and digital tools have become indispensable resources in many areas of
language and translation studies. They open a world of opportunities for both
research and teaching purposes, but they also raise practical and
methodological challenges which deserve attention from researchers, teachers
and students.

The excellence research group FUNCAP (Functional Linguistics and its
Applications) at Universidad Complutense Madrid (UCM) (Facultad de Filología)
has a long tradition and extensive experience in working with corpora and
digital tools for linguistic and translation analysis involving English,
Spanish and other languages, both through the development of research
projects, innovative teaching activities and the organization of international
conferences.

With the current International Webinar we aim at disseminating and sharing
with the research community a number of practical issues and methodological
challenges which emerge when working with corpora and digital tools in
different types of research and teaching scenarios, or when integrating both.

Among the issues that will be presented and discussed at the Webinar we can
mention the following:
- Use of corpora for specific linguistic and translation analysis;
- Use of corpus-query platforms for investigating linguistic and translation
issues;
- Methodologies for annotating discourse categories in corpora and the
challenges involved;
- Case studies using specific digital tools and corpora in language and
translation teaching and research.

The presentations at the Webinar will be carried out by members of the FUNCAP
research group as well as by invited colleagues from different European and
American universities willing to share their experiences with the community.

We welcome the attendance of students, lecturers and researchers. Attendance
