Description:

Language and Space Lab at the University of Zurich is seeking applicants for a
fully funded 3-year (plus 6 months possible extension) PhD position starting
in January 2021. The PhD candidate will join the Text Group led by Tanja
Samardžić and will work on the topic Conditioned Text Generation for Dialects
and Similar Languages.

We are looking for a motivated researcher with excellent technical background
and a clear interest in the study of language. Applicants are required to have
completed a Master’s level degree in computational linguistics or a related
discipline (data science, computer science, communication systems). Applicants
with the main background other than computational linguistics will demonstrate
their interest and experience in the study of language.

We offer excellent working conditions, interdisciplinary supervision, a
stimulating environment and Zurich’s high quality of life.

To apply, send your curriculum vitae, a one-page research statement,
transcripts, and contact details for two referees (including e-mail addresses)
in a single PDF document, and with reference “TextPhD”, to
bewerbungen at spur.uzh.ch by 22 November 2020.

Your research statement should demonstrate your ability to formulate a
specific problem and sketch a potential solution for text generation into
dialects and similar languages conditioned on other text, speech, or
structured data (choose one).
