We would like to share with you an event the Department of Germanic Studies at
UT Austin will be holding later in November. Please share the following
information with your students.

The Graduate Program in Germanic Studies at The University of Texas at Austin
invites you to find out more about graduate study by coming to Austin to
experience “Graduate School for a Day” on November 17 and 18, 2020. (The
events will be held over two days; participants may attend one or both days,
depending on their schedules and their academic interests.)

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be held online via Zoom.

On your virtual visit you will have the opportunity to sit in on graduate
courses, meet with faculty and graduate students, and take a virtual tour of
the campus.

Each year the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas at
Austin welcomes applications from candidates interested in pursuing graduate
studies in German culture, foreign language pedagogy, linguistics, film, or
literature. The University of Texas at Austin offers outstanding research
opportunities with a first-rate library and the Department hosts the
Texas-German Dialect Project and the editorial offices of German Studies
Review (the journal of the German Studies Association). Our faculty members
are internationally recognized for their scholarship and numerous courses in
other departments at the University also relate to the core fields of German
Studies. Our graduate students regularly present papers at international and
national conferences, publish scholarly articles, and win fellowships for
study and research as well as teaching awards. Participation in our teaching
mission is a crucial part of our graduate program. Beyond teaching in our
lower-division language sequence, advanced graduate students may also be able
to teach self-designed courses in English. We also have an established
reputation for placing our alumni into both academic and non-academic
positions.

Graduate students accepted into our program typically receive five years of
financial support in the form of fellowships or teaching positions. Funded
students also receive tuition assistance and health insurance benefits. We
hope to be able to provide outstanding candidates with additional financial
support. You can also find information about our Graduate School for a Day
event at

Coordinator, Ms. Monica Urso, at monicau22 at austin.utexas.edu.

Please RSVP via email by November 6, 2020 if you would like to attend.

We look forward to hearing from you!
