Description:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, Faculty of Liberal
Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites qualified candidates to
apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Linguistics at the
Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2021, subject to budgetary
approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

A PhD in Linguistics is required. Applicants should have a clearly articulated
program of research and show (promise of) excellence in teaching, scholarly
research and publication and service. We are seeking a candidate who is
familiar with generative approaches to linguistics, has a strong background in
core areas of linguistics, especially morpho-syntax (experimental work is a
plus), and an interest in bilingualism and/or language acquisition.

The prospective candidate must be able to teach courses such as: Language and
Mind, Morphology 1, Syntax 1, Semantics, First Language Acquisition, Second
Language Acquisition, Bilingualism, Canadian English, Sociolinguistics and
Linguistic Systems: Linguistic Mechanisms, and Languages in Contact. 

Candidates must provide evidence (or promise) of research excellence as
demonstrated in: the research statement; a record of (forthcoming)
publications; presentations at major conferences; and strong recommendations
from three referees. 

Evidence (or promise) of excellence in teaching will be provided through: the
teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations
including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology
enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference. 

The position will involve undergraduate as well as graduate teaching and
supervision, and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt
appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
