Position Summary:
The Department of Linguistics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks
applicants for an Assistant Professor of Practice position (with
specialization in Syntax). This is a variable time, term, non‐tenure‐track
faculty position with effective date of January 1, 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The teaching load is variable per semester based on need, including
undergraduate/graduate‐level combined courses. Spring 2021 courses will be
offered as ‘online, scheduled’ (synchronous, online meetings) or as ‘online,
anytime’ (asynchronous, no scheduled meetings). Duties may include minor
service within the department.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Linguistics or a closely related field. Individuals who have completed
all requirements for the PhD but the dissertation will be considered, with
appointment at the rank of Assistant Lecturer. Ability to teach both
undergraduate and introductory graduate (MA) courses in Syntax along with
courses in two additional areas of their expertise such as Sociolinguistics or
Minority / Heritage languages.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to a candidate with PhD granted before December 31,
2020 and to candidates who can teach a broad range of courses, including
introductory and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses that complement
the expertise of current faculty in the department.
