Description:

Applications are invited for a Lecturer in the field of deafness, cognition
and language at University College London (UCL).

Applicants from a broad range of relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply,
including (but not limited to) psychology, linguistics, cognitive
neuroscience, clinical psychology, psycholinguistics, sociology,
sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, education, interpreting, speech and
language therapy, language development, language sciences, anthropology and
deaf studies.

The successful applicant will contribute to the goal of strengthening DCAL’s
position as a centre of research and teaching excellence in the field. They
will have a strong track record, commensurate with experience, of academic
publications in the field and of obtaining research grant funding. The
successful applicant will be expected to establish wide-ranging collaborations
within UCL and beyond.

The new appointee will be expected to contribute to DCAL’s overarching
research question of how sensory and language experience shapes language
structure, language use, language acquisition, social interaction, identity
and linguistic and cognitive processing.

The appointee must have a PhD in a relevant discipline and be fluent in
British Sign Language (BSL) or another sign language.

DCAL (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/dcal), the leading research centre in the field of
Deafness, Cognition and Language in Europe, is a bilingual centre which brings
together leading deaf and hearing researchers in the fields of linguistics,
psychology and neuroscience. DCAL is part of the UCL Division of Psychology
and Language Sciences (www.ucl.ac.uk/pals) (PALS), the top-rated centre for
research in psychology in the UK (see www.ref.ac.uk).

UCL particularly welcomes applications from women, non-binary, LBGTQI+ and
minority ethnic groups, as they are currently under-represented within UCL at
these levels. DCAL also particularly encourages applications from deaf and
disabled people.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Mairéad MacSweeney, DCAL Director,
at the contact information below.
