University or Organization: University of Konstanz
Department: Department of Linguistics
Job Location: Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany
Web Address: https://www.ling.uni-konstanz.de/
Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in AHRC-DFG project
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Semantics; Experimental Methodology; Fieldwork

Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Konstanz, Germany, invites
applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Position (salary scale 13 TVL/100%).

Applicants are invited for a three-year 100% postdoctoral position in the
project “A cross-linguistic investigation of meaning-driven combinatorial
restrictions in clausal embedding”, jointly funded by the Arts and Humanities
Research Council (AHRC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The
position is available as of July 1st, 2021. A later starting date is
negotiable.

The project investigates the combinatorial and semantic properties of
clause-embedding predicates in 14 different languages, collecting novel data,
developing cross-linguistically valid hypotheses and quantitatively evaluating
these hypotheses based on psycho-linguistic experiments. It will run
concurrently in Konstanz (co-Principal Investigator Prof. Maribel Romero + 1
Postdoctoral Researcher), in Edinburgh (co-Principal Investigator: Dr. Wataru
Uegaki + 1 Postdoctoral Researcher), and Amsterdam (Co-Investigator Dr. Floris
Roelofsen). See https://wuegaki.ppls.ed.ac.uk/mecore/ for details of the
project.

The tasks of the selected candidate include:
- Carrying out semantic fieldwork,
- Designing and conducting experimental studies and
- Theoretically modelling semantic phenomena.

The selected candidate is expected to be able to work independently and as a
part of a large international team.

The two postdoctoral positions in the project are being advertised
simultaneously. For the position at the University of Konstanz, keep reading
this ad. For the position at the University of Edinburgh, see HERE COMES THE
LINK TO AD FROM UNIV EDINBURGH. Candidates can apply to either position if
they only want to be considered for that position, or to both if they want to
be considered for both. In the latter case, you can submit the same
application materials to both.

Requirements:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in linguistics with a specialization in
formal semantics and related areas. The ideal candidate will have experience
in semantic fieldwork and/or in experimental methodology.

The University of Konstanz encourages disabled persons to apply. They will be
given preference if appropriately qualified (contact + 49 7531 884016).

The University of Konstanz is an equal opportunity employer that tries to
increase the number of women in research and teaching.

The University of Konstanz has been certified as a family-friendly institution
by the Hertie Foundation and is committed to further the compatibility of work
and family life.

The University of Konstanz offers a “Dual Career Couples Programme“.
Information is available at:

The deadline for applications is March 15, 2021, but the search will continue
until the position is filled.

Applicants should submit the following to the application link provided below:
- A full CV,
- A 1-page cover letter explaining their motivation for applying for this
position,
- Contact details for three potential referees and
- Two sample publications, such as a journal article, a dissertation chapter
or a proceedings paper
