Description:

At the Department German Studies and Arts and the Forschungszentrum Deutscher Sprachatlas a Research Assistant PhD Position in linguistics (65 % of a fulltime position) is available.

It is to be filled from April 1, 2021 for 3 years, if no qualification periods are to be taken into account. An extension may be granted after positive evaluation. Classification is in pay grade 13 of the Hesse collective agreement.

The position is in the project „Alemannisch variativ“, which aims at an analysis of variation and change of local dialects in Baden-Württemberg during the first half of the 20th century.

You will work on the preparation and analysis of written dialect data from southern Germany. Responsibilities include scientific research services, in particular the phonological and morpho-logical alignment of the data and its analysis with dialectometric techniques.

Within the scope of the assigned tasks, the opportunity for independent scientific work is of-fered, which serves the own scientific qualification. The time limit is based on Section 2 Para-graph 1 Clause 1 Wiss-ZeitVG.

The ideal candidate (m/f/d) will have completed a very well scientific university degree (di-ploma, master's or comparable) in either linguistics (language geography), geography (GIS, e.g., spatial point pattern analysis) or data science (informatics). Good German language skills are expected. Familiarity with the R statistical language and basic statistical methods are an asset. The willingness to gain one's own academic qualification (e.g. a doctoral project on the field of linguistic geography) is expected.
