Description:

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is seeking to appoint a
Lecturer in Sociolinguistics to contribute to research and teaching from 1
September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is full-time.

Role:
You will play a full part in the research, teaching, supervision and
administration of the Department, with particular responsibility for teaching
and supervising in sociolinguistics on our English language, linguistics and
sociolinguistics programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will
also develop research objectives, projects and proposals and carry out
individual or collaborative research projects as well as lead on and/or
contribute to the production and dissemination of research outputs and
research outcomes.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed:
You are an early to mid-career teacher and researcher, with a PhD in
Linguistics or closely related field, who is establishing, or has established,
a track record of high quality empirical research and are committed to
excellence in teaching and supervision. You will have specialist knowledge in
sociolinguistics as well as in a range of research techniques and
methodologies and of quantitative and empirical methods. We particularly
welcome research and teaching interests that will complement and enhance the
department’s research portfolio in one or more of the following areas:
language variation and change, sociolinguistics, varieties of English.
