Meeting Description:

The Institute of Polish Language of the University of Warsaw, The Institute of
German Studies of the University of Warsaw in collaboration with The Polish
Language Foundation invite you to the 7th annual conference “Keywords 2021”,
which will take place at the University of Warsaw, on October 22 - 23, 2021.

The conference will be held as a hybrid event: in person at the University of
Warsaw and online. In case the pandemic situation aggravates, the meeting will
take place entirely online.

The conference is devoted to keywords in the public discourse and the methods
of their choosing. This theme brings together different methodologies and
different levels of analysis of language and discourse, including:
 - Statistics linguistics
 - Corpus linguistics and linguistic engineering
 - Media studies
 - Lexicology and lexicography

By combining different methods and experiences, the conference will try to
describe the keywords of contemporary public discourse. The meeting is part of
the on “Words in time” project and “The word of the year” poll . The
conference aims to look at similar projects in other countries, as “Oxford
Dictionaries’ Word of the Year” or “Wort des Jahres” polls in Germany,
Austria, and Switzerland, and others.

Our plenary speaker will be prof. Mikhail Epstein from Emory University, the
head of the Russian group “Slovo goda”.


Call for Papers: 

We invite you to submit your abstract by August 31, 2021, by application form:
https://forms.gle/DSMtavgByoLYnJJ17 or by mail to slowa.klucze.uw at gmail.com. 

The abstract should include:
 - Title
 - 300 words of description
After the anonymous reviews, we will inform you about the paper acceptance by
September 6, 2021.

Conference languages: Polish, German and English. Interpreting will be
provided for the plenary sessions.

The conference fee: 270 PLN / 60 EUR payable to Fundacja Języka Polskiego
(please see conference website for banking information). Please, quote your
name and the name of the conference (VII Konferencja Słowa-klucze) on the
transfer order.

Notification of acceptance: September 9, 2021
Conference date: October 22 - 23, 2021
