Description:

Associate Consultant, Professional Services

Core responsibilities include self-directed research of unstructured data
within large document collections, typically in the context of litigation.
Experience in the Law, Legal Research or Linguistics is preferred. This role
typically supports our clients’ legal teams in activities like case prep, depo
prep, and trial support.

This is a full time, regular position based in our Chicago Office and is NOT a
remote position. A small stipend is available for relocation to Chicago.

Responsibilities Include:
- Research and master specialized subject matter related to the issues in the
legal case
- Synthesize subject matter input from a variety of sources (case materials,
client direction, project lead feedback, internet sources)
- Master H5’s proprietary software used in document analysis, review, and
management
- Test and refine strategic search queries to mine for specific topics or
types of documents in large document collections
- Collaborate with your project team and eventually the case team to craft
custom-built solutions and process innovations, requiring flexibility and
trial-and-error
- Present findings, suggestions and challenges clearly and effectively to the
project team and eventually the case team
- Independent and self-driven problem-solving a must from every team member
- Develop organized and systematic method of aligning with our established
process, monitoring own accuracy and timelines independently
- Transition into managing project teams, crafting workflow solutions and
driving overall project success
- Develop a consultative mindset to collaborate directly with the legal case
teams to scope and implement effective solution designs

Competencies:
- Experience with analysis of large volumes of unstructured data, either in an
academic or professional environment. Data mining, data analysis skills and
habits
- Sharp eye for detail and a practiced sense of order and organization
- Ability to work with a team to carry out research tasks in an organized and
methodical way.
- Ability to recognize patterns to guide further hypotheses
- Ability to synthesize information effectively and formally document /report
findings for a variety of internal and external audiences.
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Solid client-facing or consultative communication skills, or the drive to
grow skills needed to be successful
- Aptitude for quickly learning technologies and processes and eventually
passing that knowledge on to others
- Work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines while balancing competing
priorities
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively in a team
structure
- Solid competency in a PC/Windows environment using Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, and Outlook)

Qualifications:
- 2+ years professional or academic experience with research, data mining,
strategic search, data analysis, text analysis, technology-assisted review
(TAR), Electronically Stored Information (ESI), content management or
linguistic analysis
- BA/BS Required and, MA, MS, JD, LLM, or MLS a plus
- Experience working in a project-lead or project-management capacity a plus
- Experience with eDiscovery software is a plus
- Knowledge or experience with the US legal system, legal research, or
litigation support is a plus
