The project C03 “Reference management in bilingual narratives” of the
Collaborative Research Center “Prominence in Language” at the University of
Cologne is seeking a postdoctoral researcher (please visit the following

The position is available from the 01.10.2021 on a full-time basis. It is
limited to the 31.12.2024. If the applicant meets the relevant wage
requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration
group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.

The aim of the project is to understand how school-age bilingual children
process and understand written discourse in their two languages. In
particular, we will focus on their eye-movement behavior while they process
anaphora and discourse relations. The research of the two Principal
Investigators of the project, Prof. Christiane Bongartz and Prof. Jacopo
Torregrossa, mainly focuses on German-Italian and English-German bilinguals.
However, the language combinations to be investigated will be decided based on
the post-doctoral researcher’s language expertise. 

Your profile: 

- PhD in psycho-/neurolinguistics, language acquisition or cognitive science 
- Experience in designing and conducting eye-tracking experiments 
- Excellent programming skills 
- Great ability to work in a team and open-mindedness towards new research
topics 
- Research experience at the international level 
- Academic proficiency in English 

Your tasks: 

- Designing, conducting and evaluating eye-tracking experiments and
collaborating to the design of off-line tasks (e.g., metalinguistic awareness
tasks) 
- Contributing to data collection in bilingual schools
- Supporting the principal investigators and the doctoral candidate in the
coordination of the project 
- Presenting the results of the work in international conferences and
publications 
- Establishing collaborations with other projects within the Collaborative
Research Center.
