Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of English at Iowa State University seeks applicants for a
position as a postdoctoral scholar with cross-disciplinary skills and
interests in linguistics, English language and literature, educational
assessment, and learning analytics. This is a twelve-month appointment,
renewable for up to one additional year. The position has a negotiable start
date of August 16, 2021. In addition to assisting with research, the
successful applicant will teach two linguistics courses per academic year and
contribute toward improving assessment for learning in a global online course.

The postdoctoral scholar will support a program of innovative research and
development of online learning in humanities courses in which language and
culture are core components. The current projects include innovative online
tools providing support for graduate students’ research writing in English
through the Graduate College, a survey of American literature to 1865 offered
by the English Department, and two online courses offered to English language
teachers internationally.

Collaboration on assessment for learning in these projects will provide
opportunities for the postdoctoral scholar to contribute by:
- Providing diverse perspectives and expertise for creating innovations in
online learning and formative assessment in support of student learning and
the research program,
- Managing data on learning in projects designated for research,
- Supporting ongoing research and development for humanities learning through
collaboration with faculty and graduate students.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Applications should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field by August 16, 2021, as
well as demonstrated cross-disciplinary interests and skills spanning
linguistics, English language and literature, educational assessment, and
learning analytics.

Preferred Qualifications:
We are especially interested in candidates with expertise and interests in any
of the following areas:
- Online formative assessment
- Natural language processing
- Data science
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Language and culture learning through literature

from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position offers an annual salary of $53,000 plus benefits, some
relocation costs, and a research fund.
