Department: Department of Language and Linguistic Science
Job Location: York, United Kingdom
Web Address: https://www.york.ac.uk/language/
Job Title: Associate Lecturer in Phonetics/Phonology
Job Rank: Lecturer

Specialty Areas: Phonetics; Phonology

Description:

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is seeking to appoint an
Associate Lecturer in Phonetics/Phonology for 12 months fixed-term
(full-time).

The successful applicant to the position of Associate Lecturer in
Phonetics/Phonology will contribute to teaching from 1 September 2021 or as
soon as possible thereafter.

You will play a full part in teaching, supervision and administration in the
Department, with particular responsibility for teaching in phonetics/phonology
on our programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed:
You are an early-career academic, with a PhD in Linguistics or closely related
field, who is committed to excellence in teaching and supervision. You will
have specialist knowledge in phonetics and phonology. We would especially
welcome someone with the ability to deliver training in phonetic observation
and transcription. Familiarity with English phonetics is essential but
knowledge of languages other than English would be an asset. Members of the
Department frequently combine phonetics and phonology with other areas of
linguistics, such as conversation analysis, sociolinguistics or child language
acquisition, and we would welcome someone who can contribute to one of these
sub-areas within linguistics. Experience of interacting with students and
providing guidance on their projects is an advantage.
