Description:

At the University of Greifswald’s Department of British and North American
Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected
to be available for earliest possible appointment, subject to budgetary
regulations, for a fulltime Lecturer.

The position on offer is limited to a period of 24 months and is suitable for
part-time employment.

The fixed-term employment is contracted without a factual reason, according to
§ 14(2) of the German Part-Time and Limited Term Employment Act (TzBfG).
Applicants who have previously been employed in a fixed-term or permanent work
relationship with the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as an employer (in an
office of the state) cannot be included in the selection process. In case of
an existing employment with the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the
possibility of a secondment to the University of Greifswald, for the period
mentioned above, can be considered. In the case of applications from a
permanent employment at the University of Greifswald, the transfer of tasks
shall be realised by temporary transposition.

Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

The Department of British and North American Studies at Greifswald University
offers rich perspectives in research and teaching. It offers a broad range of
study programs (B.A. English Studies; teacher training courses;
interdisciplinary M.A. programs). The Chair of English Linguistics has a
strong focus on language as a social practice.

Job description:
- Academic teaching in English Linguistics, including a focus on gender
(sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics) as well as basic courses
- Preparing, administering and grading exams in all study programs offered at
the department
- Supporting general organizational duties of the Chair of English Linguistics
- Participating in sociolinguistic research

Job requirements:
Required:
- Degree in English Studies or Applied Linguistics (grade average: at least
2.5, German grading scale)
- Documented teaching experience in English Linguistics
- Documented teaching or research experience in the area language and gender
- Excellent English skills (C2)
- Very good German skills (B2 or higher)

Preferred:
- Research interest in sociolinguistics, discourse analysis or pragmatics
- Teaching or research experience in the area of digital linguistic practice
- Completed PhD

The position is open to all persons, irrespective of gender. The University

will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long
as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable.
