Description:

The Department of Chinese Studies, National University of Singapore, is one of
the leading institutions in the world in the fields of Chinese Studies and
Chinese Language and a major academic and research centre in Southeast Asia.
We invite applications for the post of Tenure Track or Educator Track (Open
Rank) in Chinese Applied Linguistics and/or Translation/Interpretation.
Appointments on the Educator Track are aimed at faculty members who approach
teaching as scholarly practice in addition to research in their field of
study. 

Applicants for this position should have a PhD and be an active researcher or
practitioner in a subfield of applied linguistics, broadly interpreted,
including but not limited to Translation/Interpretation research or practice.
Scholars who can contribute to interdisciplinarity in research or teaching,
whether with humanities or science fields, are particularly encouraged to
apply.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a strong commitment to:
- Teach their subfield or related subjects at both undergraduate and
postgraduate levels;
- Provide supervision to students and
- Undertake research in their subfield or related areas; as well as
- Play an active leadership role in the Department’s curriculum and
development.

S/he should possess native-speaking, or near native-speaking, competence in
both Mandarin and English. Some knowledge of the Chinese dialects spoken in
Singapore will be an added asset.

The successful candidate may be offered an appointment on the Educator Track
if he/she is deemed more suited.

- Four letters of reference including one from PhD supervisor (for
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Educator Track) and Assistant Professor (Tenure
Track) posts) OR Six names of referees with full contact details (for
Associate Professor and above)
