Meeting Description:

Literacy Education and Second Language Learning for Adults (LESLLA) supports
adults with little or no home language schooling or literacy, who are now
learning to read and write for the first time in a new language. LESLLA
promotes, on a worldwide, multidisciplinary and multilingual basis, the
sharing of research findings, effective pedagogical practices and information
on policy.

During the two days, LESLLA will host a live keynote, roundtable, coffee break
sessions for all attendees. Please note that all other sessions (typically
concurrent sessions at a live conference) will be pre-recorded. The recordings
will be available for viewing PRIOR to the conference. During the symposium,
all presenters will be scheduled to join a roundtable discussion and Q & A
session live. 


Call for Papers: 

Please submit your proposals by May 21, 2021. You will receive a notification
of acceptance by June 15, 2021.  You are invited to submit a recording of
15-20 minutes upon acceptance of proposal. Recordings will be due on July 26,
2021.

Suggested topics: 
We welcome proposals for the 17th annual conference. Suggested topics may
include but are not limited to:
 - Second language acquisition with a focus on low literate adults
 - Pandemic-related teaching & learning (hybrid, remote, low-tech
environments, etc.)
 - Translanguaging among LESLLA learners
 - Role of volunteers in language and literacy support  
 - Teaching practices and strategies for the LESLLA classroom 
 - L1 literacy and LESLLA learners
 - Assessment 
 - Policies, advocacy, and human rights for LESLLA 
 - Refugees and asylum seekers’ inclusion in hosting contexts and language
acquisition 
 - Professional development and teacher education
