Description:

Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the
recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned
experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to
create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.
Northeastern’s comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in
a variety of on- campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the
doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195
multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for
purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The Linguistics Program in the College of Science at Northeastern University
invites applications for a benefits-eligible, full-time, non-tenure track
position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to start in fall 2021.
This is a continuing position, with the possibility of promotion to Associate
and Full Teaching Professor, as well as multi-year (3 year and 5 year)
contracts; teaching faculty are also eligible to hold leadership positions at
all levels of faculty governance.

The NU Linguistics Program is a thriving undergraduate program that offers
degrees in linguistics as well as a number of combined majors that bring
together disciplines related to linguistics. The successful candidate will
have demonstrated excellence in teaching, and have the academic background and
expertise needed to teach introductory linguistics as well as a range of
topics, especially language and culture, sociolinguistics, and language and
gender. Ability to teach forensic linguistics or computational linguistics a
plus.

Responsibilities:
Teaching a base load of six courses per academic year in the Linguistics
Program, with the topic areas of the courses to be determined by the Program
Director, taking into account the individual’s area of expertise and interest
and the needs of the Program. Service contributions are also expected.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Linguistics is required by the appointment start date. A record of
teaching excellence, and strong communication and teamwork skills are
essential.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate
teaching and mentoring. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to
fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting
experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern education.
