Description:

The Department of Linguistics in the Division of World Languages, Literatures,
and Cultures (DWLLC) at the University of Iowa seeks a part-time (at least
50%) Visiting Assistant Professor in Linguistics for the 2021-2022 academic
year, with renewal for the 2022-2023 academic year pending collegiate funding
and positive reviews.

The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Linguistics and
undergraduate and graduate courses in syntax (Syntactic Analysis,
Morphosyntax, Introduction to Syntax, Syntactic Theory). The anticipated
teaching load, subject to change, is six courses per year (16 semester hours).

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Screening begins May 19, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled,
with interviews conducted by telephone or videoconference. 

Education Requirement:
PhD in Linguistics, in hand by the time of the appointment.

Required Qualifications:
Expertise in contemporary formal syntax, including the ability to teach
undergraduate and graduate courses in theoretical syntax and undergraduate
courses in general linguistics.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience teaching large format courses, including TA supervision
- Experience working with experimental design and in a lab setting
- Quantitative expertise such as statistics, computational linguistics, or
other approaches
