Description:

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Language Data Scientist to
join the School of Languages and Cultures. The Language Technology and Data
Analysis Lab (LADAL) in the School of Languages and Cultures is driving the
development of a series of national eResearch infrastructure projects,
including the Australian Text Analytics Platform (ATAP) and the Language Data
Commons of Australia (LDaCA), in collaboration with the NCRIS-funded
Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and other key national partner
institutions.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide support for building and
utilising the digital research platforms and tools developed through these
projects, including supporting the training of researchers in the use of these
platforms and tools, and to engage in research on the development and use of
language technologies.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one
of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from
Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with
outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a
perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant
campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate:
Alongside the completion of a PhD in an area of Language Technology or related
field, or significant progress towards such a qualification, the successful
candidate will demonstrate the following:

Successful Level A candidates will demonstrate:
- Demonstrated evidence of a developing record of publication in high-quality
outlets in the field.
- Demonstrated skills in common programming languages, including Python and R.
- Evidence of ongoing research projects, including plans for external funding
applications.

the following:
- Demonstrated evidence of an established record of publication in
high-quality outlets in the field.
- Evidence of ongoing research projects, including plans for external funding
applications.

What We Can Offer:
This is a full-time, fixed term position for three years at Academic Level A/B
(level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and
academic achievements).

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level A will be in the range
AUD$70,729 - $94,637, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be
in the range AUD$82,752 - $110,725.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range
AUD$99,542 - $118,206, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be
in the range AUD$116,465 - $138,301.
