Meeting Description:

Additional language learning and use across lifespan tends to bring about
changes to the native language of the speaker. These changes may manifest in
retrieval/activation difficulties or structural as well as neurological
modifications of the L1 are studied in the field of language attrition (Schmid
& Köpke, 2019). More broadly, the study of language attrition is closely
related to heritage language studies and research on incomplete acquisition of
native languages. It also informs educators and practitioners who work with
bilingual and multilingual populations of various ages groups.

With expanding migration and increasing bilingualism, the goal of Fourth
International Conference on Language Attrition and Bilingualism (ICLA 4) is to
bring together researchers and practitioners from around the world who are
working to better understand the nature of language attrition and its effects
on bilingual development. We encourage discussions focused on attrition and
its bilingual/multilingual context from the diverse fields of theoretical
linguistics, applied linguistics, neurolinguistics, sociolinguistics, heritage
language studies, language policy, and education.
