Description:

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Faculty of Modern
Languages at Goethe University Frankfurt invites applications for a Doctoral
Researcher (E13 TV-GU, 65%) funded for 3 years. The salary grade is based on
the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to
Goethe-University (TV-G-U). The starting date is April 15, 2022.

The candidate will pursue a Ph.D. degree within the project “EVOLVE”
(DFG-funded project number 468764275). EVOLVE investigates the hypothesis that
patterns of diachronic change can sometimes predict the linguistic behaviors
of Portuguese heritage speakers. The candidate will conduct eye-tracking
experiments comparing the processing profiles of Portuguese heritage speakers
(living in Germany) with those of Portuguese speakers living in Brazil and in
Portugal. Our department features a lively research environment, which
includes a graduate school and faculty working on language acquisition,
processing and theoretical linguistics. We also have experimental facilities
including remote eye-trackers and reaction-time computers.

Applicants should:
 - have an excellent command of Portuguese
 - be interested in psycholinguistics and bilingualism
 - hold an M.A. in linguistics, or equivalent (e.g. “licenciatura” in
Portuguese-speaking countries), with the degree completed by April, 15.

Knowledge of English and German, as well as prior experience with empirical
research are desirable.

Application documents:
 - a motivation letter stating why the candidate is interested in the position
(max 1 page)
 - a CV
 - a copy of the academic degree(s)
 - contact information of two people who could provide letters of reference.
