Host Institution:
Website: https://edelc.uib.cat/

Dates: 07-Sep-2022 - 10-Sep-2022
Location: Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

Focus: The focus of EDELC 2022 is on Catalan linguistics
Minimum Education Level: No Minimum

Description:
The II Summer School in Catalan Linguistics (EDELC 2022) will be held from 7
to 10 September 2022, at the University of Oxford. EDELC intends to be a
meeting point for students and professors of Catalan linguistics based in
Catalan-speaking territories and elsewhere. EDELC 2022 is organized by
Institut Ramon Llull, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge,
and Queen Mary University of London, in collaboration with the Government of
the Balearic Islands (Direcció General de Política Lingüística) and the
University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).

EDELC aims at offering training in Catalan linguistics to undergraduate and
postgraduate students, with special attention to students from universities
outside Catalan-speaking areas who have an interest in Catalan or have already
begun to investigate some aspect of its linguistics. In addition to the
introductory courses in different areas of Catalan linguistics, EDELC 2022
will include tutorials dedicated to specific aspects of the courses and a
space for the presentation of work by students, which will enable direct
interaction with specialists. EDELC therefore wants to facilitate
collaborations, co-supervision, and the creation of a supportive network in
linguistic studies on Catalan.

Students are welcome to show their work on Catalan linguistics in an oral
presentation at EDELC 2022. Undergraduate, Master, or PhD students who are
interested in submitting their work for EDELC 2022 must send their proposals
in Catalan or English to edelc2022 at gmail.com before noon 30 June 2022 (British
Summer Time).

Among those students who submit a proposal, 7 will be selected to have their
accommodation costs covered. The criteria for selection will be whether or not
the student has a scholarship and also the place from which they will travel
to Oxford.

The proposals must include two documents:
Document 1. Personal information. This document must include:
–First and last name
–E-mail address
–Whether or not they currently benefit from a scholarship
–Place from which they will travel to Oxford
Document 2. Information on the presentation. This document must include:
–Area of Catalan linguistics explored in their work
–Title and summary of up to 400 words

A jury appointed by the local Organizing Committee will select one of the
contributions to be awarded the Aina Moll prize, endowed with € 3,000 and
funded by the Government of the Balearic Islands (Direcció General de Política
Lingüística).

Tuition Explanation: A small tuition of £15 (for students) will be asked for to cover coffee breaks
and other expenses.
