Call Deadline: 24-Jun-2022

Meeting Description:

The conference “Accessible and inclusive practices in instructed Second
Language acquisition” (ASLA) aims to explore inclusive and accessible
practices within the area of instructed second language acquisition. Generally
speaking, accessible education may be defined as the process of designing and
delivering courses to encounter the comprehensive needs of all learners:
people from a range of different backgrounds, with different capabilities,
cognitive characteristics, learning times, styles, and motivations (Harmer
2015; Pomarolli 2021; Smith 2021). In short, this means ensuring a
“high-quality educational response for all students” (Moriña 2017: 3).
Accessible education, furthermore, cuts across all aspects of education:
physical and technological infrastructures, instructional modes, teaching
strategies, learning materials, and assessment; additionally, the successful
implementation of a consistent inclusion system requires instructors to be
equipped with the appropriate knowledge, training and experience so that they
can meet the varying needs of a range of learners (Malinina 2022).

Call for Papers:

This conference explores inclusive practices in L2 teaching and learning as
applied in both school contexts and higher education. Aspects such as the
performance gain resulting from specific learning designs that cater for
inclusive and accessible teaching and learning are of particular interest, as
are instructional approaches, for instance, task-based and universal design
for learning, also in blended delivery contexts. Contributions focusing on
how inclusive practices may effectively be integrated within language
assessment and testing are also welcome. Further topics include teacher
training and continuous professional development.

We invite researchers to submit either conceptually or empirically oriented
proposals.
The conference will be held onsite (health conditions permitting).
We invite proposals for 20-minute workshop (+ 10 minutes for questions) or
poster presentations.
The language of the conference is English.
