Description:

The School of Languages and Linguistics at Southern Illinois University
Carbondale seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Practice position in
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This is a term,
non-tenure-track faculty position with effective date of August 16, 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
The teaching load is variable per semester (generally 3-4 courses per
semester) based on need, including undergraduate/graduate-level combined
courses. This faculty member teaches a broad range of courses in TESOL that
complement the expertise of other faculty in the program, including
undergraduate majors and minors in TESOL and Linguistics, MA students in TESOL
and Linguistics, current and future teachers seeking an ESL endorsement to
their teaching license, and courses offered to the general undergraduate
population of the university. Specifics of course assignments are dependent on
curricular need and the expertise of the faculty member. Duties may include
service within the Program, including mentoring of students, participation on
committees, and supervision of teaching assistants.

Minimum Qualifications: 
Must have PhD conferred before May 31, 2022 in TESOL, Second Language
Acquisition/Studies, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or a closely related
field. Ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate and MA-level courses in
TESOL and undergraduate general education courses in TESOL and Linguistics.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Preference will be given to a candidate with expertise in L2 Writing and
Grammar, preparation to teach L2 assessment, expertise that complements the
current faculty in the program, and/or a candidate who can provide supervision
and mentoring for TA-taught undergraduate ESL composition courses.
