Linguistic Field(s): Anthropological Linguistics

Call Deadline: 31-May-2022

Meeting Description:

This conference will examine the role AHSS disciplines (Arts, Humanities and
Social Sciences) can play in understanding contemporary society and change (in
the fields, among others, of climate, health, economics, digitalization, and
technology). While improving interdisciplinary collaboration between the AHSS
and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines is an
objective shared by both national and supra-national funding agencies, a
genuine dialogue can only be fostered through mutual recognition of the
important contribution each field can bring to addressing global challenges.
This interdisciplinary conference seeks to reaffirm the centrality of the
humanities subjects (including classics, ancient and modern languages,
linguistics, philology, literature, philosophy, history, archaeology,
anthropology, human geography, law, religion, music and art), as fundamental
disciplines in themselves that need to be fostered and promoted and as framing
devices through which to read society, past, present and future. The
humanities offer vital tools and unique perspectives for addressing crucial
issues of civic life. The humanities and the social sciences can play a
central role in shaping our local and national conversations about our
history, our identities and our increasingly digitalised common future.
Proposals for papers and panels are welcomed on topics that may include:

The humanities and democracy (human and civil rights; peace and war; crises,
ruptures and continuities; dynamics of inclusion and exclusion);
The new/hybrid humanities (digital, environmental, energy humanities, global,
urban, food, medical, legal, public);
The humanities, sustainability, equity, and climate change (ecocriticism,
ethics, aesthetics, cultural studies and social ecology);
Research and teaching in the digital age (post-disciplinary reading, the
classics, sustainability and the curriculum, slow teaching, new network
structures for the humanities and the social sciences; the resilience of
literature/the literature of resilience; artificial intelligence and the
humanities);
Interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity (challenges and opportunities;
theoretical approaches and applied studies; ‘citizen science’ and academic
research; best practices).

Call for Papers:

For paper proposals, send a 200-word abstract and a one-page CV to
humanities at unimc.it by 31 May 2022. For panel proposals, please provide a
brief overview of the panel in an email message and attach all paper proposals
and CVs.
