Description:

In our newly established long-term project, “Modeling of Knowledge Networks in
Medieval Romance Speaking Europe Based on Linguistic Data – ALMA”, we are
offering a PostDoc position as a research associate in the field of historical
linguistics of French (Old French, Middle French).

The tasks include the editing of lexical-semantic analyses of medieval French
terms of medicine and jurisdiction (underpinned by Latin and in close
cooperation with colleagues working on Italian, Occitan, Spanish, and Catalan)
from the 12th to the 15th century. The overall goal is to describe the
development processes of the European vernacular languages into languages of
knowledge and science. The first project phase focuses on text editions of
manuscripts, establishing text corpora that will lay the foundation for the
analyses.

The requirements include:
 - a Doctoral degree relevant for the field
 - previous academic experience,
 - a profound knowledge of text philology and historical lexicology or
lexicography,
 - while German, the team language, can be learned on-site, very good
knowledge of Modern French and English is required; knowledge of another
Romance language would be an asset,
 - motivation, ability to work in a team, and the will to take over
responsibility.

The project uses lexicological-lexicographical and corpus-linguistic methods.
Furthermore, it focuses on the modeling of research results through Semantic
Web technologies and develops domain ontologies. Knowledge of, or affinity for
digital methods is therefore very welcome.

The 100% position (salary TV-L 13

until 12/2025.

We look forward to receiving applications by committed researchers who are
interested both in meticulous fundamental research in historical linguistics
and in its combination with digital methods and who are motivated to help
establish a new research project.
You can apply for the position with your CV, a motivation letter that explains
why you're interested in, and qualified for the position, and preferably three
representative publications. Recommendation letters by academic referees are
welcome. Please send a single PDF file to the application email below. For
questions, please contact Dr. Sabine Tittel at the contact email address
