Job Title: Researcher (Wissenchaftlicher Mitarbeiter) - Syntax
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Syntax

Description:

The Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft (ZAS) in Berlin invites
applications for a post-doctoral researcher (full time, ending December 2023),
specializing in natural-language syntax, the syntax/semantics interface, and
the relation of syntax to pragmatic phenomena. The position is part of the ERC
project “Speech Acts in Grammar and Discourse” (SPAGAD) directed by Manfred
Krifka. The project investigates speech acts in particular their syntactic and
prosodic realization, their interaction with semantic operators within the
sentence, their combination and function in discourse, the acquisition of
specific speech acts by children, and the societal norms concerning the use of
particular types of speech acts.

Applicants should have prior experience in working on phenomena related to
speech acts (such as questions, commands, exclamatives), should be informed
about typological research on speech acts, and should ideally have worked on a
non-European language. The successful applicant is expected to collaborate in
a team of researchers that focuses on other speechact-related aspects. The
candidate should have experience with empirical techniques like linguistic
field work, corpus linguistics, and/or experimental work.

Please submit, with subject line: “SPAGAD Syntax Application”, a letter of
intent that states in particular the nature of your interest in the project
and your expertise that you could contribute, as well as an CV, in one single
pdf file to the following address: krifka at leibniz-zas.de. Please provide names
and e-mail addresses for up to two potential letters of reference. Also,
please identify three publications in your letter that can either be
downloaded or that you include in your pdf file.
