Meeting Description:

Together with experts interested in the history, research and teaching of
language, literature and culture, we would like to discuss the place and role
of the humanities in the world: the direction in which the humanities are
changing, the practical uses of the humanities beyond theoretical
possibilities, and how they can be put into a cross-disciplinary framework. If
we want to explore the social changes that are taking place around us, we need
to look at the changes, movements and modifications of language, culture and
literature, at the latent and slow or even rapid shifts, innovations or even
eclipses.

People live in cultural communities that are formed and sustained along
certain practices. We are not only part of a material world: how a community
maintains and regenerates itself is also important. In our view, the benefits
of the humanities (though difficult to quantify) are the development of
knowledge coupled with ethical stance, the generation and maintenance of
intellectual strength, the training of individuals capable of critical
thinking, the formation of creative people who understand interconnections.
The human capital of knowledge, freedom of thought and reflection, the
cultivation and teaching of culture in the classical sense, the preservation
of interfaces, the exploration and interpretation of the cultural values of
the past and present, often with a view to the future, are decisive factors in
this.

Topics:

Research perspectives in humanities
Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches
Digital humanities versus traditional humanities
Linguistic variation, linguistic diversity in the European culture
Translation theory and translation practice
Language and culture, intercultural perspectives
Teaching foreign languages and teaching the mother tongue - investigating good
practices
We expect submissions in Hungarian, Romanian, English and German.
