Description:

The University of Zurich invites applications for an assistant professorship
with tenure track in descriptive and anthropological linguistics.

The position should be filled at the earliest opportunity. After two temporary
three-year contracts, the position will become tenured on the condition that
the candidate passes the evaluation process.

The successful candidate has an extensive background in fieldwork, with
particular emphasis on typologically informed linguistic analysis (e.g.,
grammar writing), digital language documentation (e.g., corpus development),
and theoretically motivated research on the social and cultural conditions of
language diversification and / or language use. We expect the successful
candidate to participate in interdisciplinary research projects, especially
within the framework of Switzerland's National Center of Competence in
Research (NCCR) Evolving Language and in collaboration with
quantitatively-oriented researchers.

Candidates are expected to have an outstanding academic track record and a PhD
degree in hand at the time of application. Teaching may be carried out in
English, non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working
knowledge of German within a reasonable period of time. The University of
