Subject: Russian; Ling & Literature: Associate Senior Lecturer in Russian, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden

University or Organization: University of Gothenburg
Department: The Department of Languages and Literatures
Job Location: Gothenburg, Sweden
Web Address: https://www.gu.se/
Job Title: Associate Senior Lecturer in Russian
Job Rank: Senior Lecturer

Specialty Areas: Ling & Literature

Required Language(s): Russian (rus)

Description:

An associate senior lecturer must be given the opportunity to develop their
independence as a researcher and teacher, and to achieve further academically
as well as gain further qualifications and experience in teaching and learning
in order to fulfil the requirements for a position as a Senior Lecturer.
Duties include research of at least 50 per cent of working hours and teaching
and administration of at most 50 per cent of working hours.

The teaching component includes teaching at all levels, on campus and online,
and teaching evening courses. The courses may span the entire subject area –
from linguistics and translation theory to literary studies, the history of
the Russian language, the history of Russian culture and ideas, and language
skills. Teaching also includes supervision, seminars, course coordination,
course administration and course development, etc. Teaching in the
Department’s general courses and study programmes may also be included, as
well as assignments of an administrative nature. Some courses are taught in
English, which is why a good ability to teach in English is essential. The
subject area also includes contrastive linguistics courses, which is why
knowledge of Swedish at mother-tongue level is a requirement from the start of
the appointment.

An Associate Senior Lecturer is expected to follow developments within their
own subject area and actively apply for external research funding and also
participate in the Department’s development activities in both research and
teaching and learning. The applicant must therefore describe in their
application how their own research can promote and contribute to the
Department’s areas of research.

The holder of the position is expected to be present at the Department and to
participate in day-to-day work on site. Work within the subject area is
carried out in a teaching team and the successful candidate is expected to
contribute constructively to the subject area and to the entire Department in
a spirit of collegiality.
